Biography

Sandra Valenzuela / sandra SAN studied visual arts with honorary mention at “La Esmeralda” and a master’s degree from Pratt Institute, NY. She has had solo shows in Italy, USA, Mexico and Spain. She has had collective shows at The Rubin Center for The Visual Arts, El Paso, Texas, EUA, Museo del Barrio; NYC; Instituto Cervantes de Nueva York, Centro de la Imagen, Mexico City (2002 and 2009 biennale), Fotofest, Houston 2010, Galería CENART, Mexico City and MUCA Roma, Mexico City. In the last years she has received grants from: Fulbright- García Robles, FONCA-PAEE, La Colección Jumex, Unidad Latina Foundation and CONACYT. Her work is part of diverse private collections as well as the collection of El Museo del Barrio, NYC. Her work has been reviewed in The New York Times, Village Voice, The New Yorker, among other media. She is currently studying a master’s degree in Chinese Studies with an interest in Chinese contemporary art at El Colegio de México with a CONACYT grant.
