Mutts (Series in Process)

This series consists in a sculptural group of street dogs in attacking poses. This animals are made from wood I find in the streets of my city, Bogota in Colombia. The intention to use this material is, as Saint Agustin says, to enhance this raw material, this chaos container, into a being, into a intelligible piece of reality. This wood is natural, pieces of trees, but in the moment I pick them up is re conceptualized as junk, but after this metamorphoses are dogs, a really familiar idea but now containing condensed chaos.

What is the seduction of destruction and time sculpting skills? What is inside this abandoned houses in the middle of no-where? Why this voyeuristic impulse to go inside? To see through the windows?From photos of abandoned rural houses made up with wood I started to make this models, this is the one I have finished in this moment. Inside, there is a drawing, you can just see it by natural light that enters through the windows, real windows, real habitation of drawing. You must get near and look through within this houses.

My name is Miguel Jara. I study a BA in Math (2000-2006) and after that I´ve made a MA in Visual Arts (2006-2008). Actually I am teacher of one of the best universities in Bogota, Colombia: Universidad Tadeo Lozano, I give courses of mathematics, art history, art theory, now I´m directing a Research Seminary about proscription and the devil-hell images with little bits of contemporary countercultural movements.Since I started three years ago with my Master, I started to make cel animation and drawing. Between the different subjects I worked on that time there was always a reflection around the animal behavior related to human experience, after that I started to make another animations about the magnificence of natural disasters and in this moment I am working on a research about the hidden and the uncanny, and the unstandard posibilities of though life.
